An IPA that is black and does not taste burnt. Debittered dark malts give the colour without the acrid roast, so the hops still lead and the beer finishes dry.

What goes wrong
Using ordinary roasted barley. Roast plus 70 IBU is harsh; the style needs dehusked dark malt added late in the mash or it becomes a hoppy stout.
